Breaking Boundaries:
Helping People with Disabilities Lead Fulfilling Lives

Creativity gives meaning to life, connecting all humanity. The Disabled Student Services Department of San Francisco City College provided art and drama classes for people with disabilities.

“Breaking Boundaries” was a photo exhibit produced in collaboration with the Disabled Student Services Department of San Francisco City College. The exhibit was installed at the Rosenberg Library, City College of San Francisco, April through October 2011. The exhibit included photographs documenting two classes, Arts and Crafts For The Disabled, taught by Carole Fitzgerald at the John Adams Campus, and Drama For The Disabled, taught by Judy Goodman at the Mission Campus, and also photos of instructor Judi Kaplan demonstrating how to read lips.

Other articles by Richard Bermack about providing services and working with people with disabilities are included in “Giving People with Developmental Disabilities a More Fulfilling Life,” in the SEIU 535 Dragon, a union newspaper for social workers that was published from 1995 to 2003.
